- Full-blood: 100% Wagyu, with bloodlines traced back to Japan.
- Akaushi: Japanese Red Wagyu, a separate Wagyu breed.
- Wagyu-cross or American Wagyu: Wagyu bred with another breed, often Angus. Still well marbled, and usually cheaper.
Ask the farm which one you’re buying and how it’s finished. Wagyu is often finished on grain to build marbling, but not always.

Ohio Wagyu: Quick Answers
Can I buy a half of Wagyu in Ohio?
Sometimes. Dreamland Farms in Wauseon sells Wagyu-cross beef by the quarter, half or whole. The other farms here sell Wagyu by the cut or in boxes, so ask if you want a bigger share.
What’s the difference between full-blood and Wagyu-cross?
Full-blood Wagyu has only Wagyu parents, traced back to Japanese cattle. Wagyu-cross, often sold as American Wagyu, is Wagyu bred with another breed like Angus. It usually costs less and is still well marbled.
Is Ohio Wagyu the same as Japanese A5?
No. A5 is a Japanese grade for beef raised and graded in Japan. Ohio Wagyu can come from the same bloodlines, but it isn’t graded A5.
Is Wagyu worth the price?
Sometimes. It’s rich and heavily marbled, so many people save it for steaks and buy regular beef for everyday ground beef and roasts.
